Your ex is helping to pull you apart, too, of course. Your Ex-Spouse: Just as your children are getting comfortable with your new love, your ex begins to turn the children against him/her. Your ex is a very cunning and manipulative person. There is nothing you can put your finger on, yet you know it is happening. After all, you know that guy/gal better than anyone, right? How can you help? Try to determine the real feelings and/or fears of your ex. If your ex still has feeling for you, explain again and again that it's over. Make certain your ex understands if this new love does not become part of your life, another person will. If your ex is worried about the kids loving this new person, explain what you are doing to make certain the kids never lose touch with him/her. Do everything possible to build this assurance. As for a manipulative ex: you are probably better off leaving this alone. Most manipulative people have excellent personalities; they are charmers. How else could they get away with their blatant manipulation of people for so long? Your kids might catch on someday. In the meantime, you can grin and bear it. That is probably what you have done in the past, anyway!
