In a semi-ideal world, children would be hurt by divorce as little as possible. In a semi-ideal world, grandparents would always have access to grandchildren. In fact, if divorce did happen, grandparents would have visitation rights included in the divorce decree. When adults are divorcing, emotions such as anger, fear, revenge, and more are prevalent. Tears are commonplace. Mom is sad; dad is moody. Grandma's house is one place that can still be happy. Grandma and Grandpa can hug and smile and laugh with your children. It is also a place that a child can voice fears and frustrations and receive loving support. For the sake of your children, include a provision stating that both maternal and paternal grandparents will have certain visitation rights in your divorce decree. It is one of the most important things you can do for your children because children have a right to grandparents. |
