Singles Meeting: All I can say now is that if you can find a non-church singles group or a local matchmaker, check them out. See how the good ol' days were in the singles world. Singles meet:

I have been writing for SOLO for Singles for many years, since before the internet. During that time, I have married, divorced, and lived in three large metropolitan areas. I have observed the singles scene from the standpoint of a married man. I have participated in the singles scene in all three metropolitan areas either as a never married man, a separated man, or a single-again man. This true confession is to convince you that I am an "expert" on the singles scene. I like the internet and use some of the smaller sites (they have fewer players and married persons as far as I can tell) to meet people. But... I grieve the good old days for a singles scene that was local and active! It was so much easier to meet a genuine single and to enter a "real" relationship rather than an email send-a-thon. The singles world was overflowing with ways to meet. There were personals from several local papers so there were fewer players and married people participating. In fact, it was rare to find out you had contacted a married woman and women assured me it was the same with men. I suppose, it was too risky for those who were married since the papers and people were totally local. We met face-to-face and we had fun!! There were singles groups that were active in many different realms. We had many kinds of dancing groups, dinner groups, happy hour groups, walking groups, movie-watching groups, various sporting groups, dog-walking groups, skiing groups, and more. There was a singles group in Dallas-Fort Worth that actually jumped out of airplanes together. Most singles groups today come from churches and do not have the diversity of members the groups once had. There were local matchmaking and dating services that helped you meet a potential mate/lover instead of franchises that seem more interested in selling memberships than helping their members connect. |
